Description: Awareness Song About Mother Earth
Notes: I'm trying to get you to fucking understand what we're doing to ourselves!

Sure... Mother Earth. Turn the key, put it in gear, and step on the gas. Never stopping to think about the damage we cause this biosphere just by being it's inhabitants.

There used to be wars, famines, plagues, but now even diseases are being conquered one after another, and war has almost become a video game except for the losers.

The ancient Greeks called their Earth Goddess 'Gaia', she was their Mother Earth, and being of humble means, they revered her.

We do not. In fact, we almost completely disregard her. She's sick, ailing, and if we don't check ourselves, or extinquish ourselves, her very existence is threatened.

The Gaia hypothesis is based upon the concept of our Mother Earth as a living organism. With other smaller, symbiotic creatues inhabiting her. Some enjoy a relationship based upon mutualism, others - commensulism. While a few, humans, that is, are parasites - feeding upon their host without any consideration to the fact that if we kill the host, we die too.

One of the most interesting things that was shown to me, being a student of biochemistry at the University of California, was the unmistakable resemblance between cancer in living tissue under the microscope, and the sprawl of metropolitan urban civilization when viewed from space - almost identical, with the freeways radiating out like little carcenogenic tentacles from a tumor.

Gaia's got a name. And indeed, it is Mother Earth.
Lyrics: Gaia's Got A Name - Bradley Dean Thornton 1995
----------------------------------------------

We stand and criticize, to wash away our sins
Just tell me where to look
and when the world begins
I'm just a simple man
I'm not reduced to wealth
I know this girl but she's in
Mediocre health

Oh. My, Gaia's got a name
Oh my, Gaia's got a name

Whilst here we stand it burns
And never to we learn
I'm not given much to names
It's seems we may be lame
Well I know this girl
I know I told you how she feels
And now the Cancer fills her
I reckon that's the deal

Oh. My, Gaia's got a name
Oh my, Gaia's got a name
Oh. My, Gaia's got a name
Oh, oh... oh

We stand, criticize, to wash away our sins
Just tell me where to look
and when the world begins
I'm just a simple man
I'm not reduced to wealth
I know this girl but she's in
Mediocre health

Oh... Gaia's got a name
Oh my, Gaia's got a name
Oh, oh, Gaia's got a name
Oh, oh, oh.....
